Awards

BLACK LION AWARD – Football

At the end of the season, the Black Lion award will be presented to a player from the Lake Fenton Youth Football program who best exemplifies the character of Major Don Holleder.

Major Holleder played football at West Point and was killed in action during the Viet Nam war. This award is dedicated to his memory, and the memory of other Black Lions, on the 101st anniversary of the 28th Infantry. Holleder was an All-American football player who switched positions on the team because the team needed someone to play that position. He sacrificed for his team. In Vietnam, he game his life up helping his fellow soldiers.

The award winner will be chosen based on the players leadership, courage, devotion to duty, self-sacrifice, and above all – an unselfish concern for his team ahead of himself.

Coaches should select one player from your team and write up the reason why.  Most teams have the kids nominate 5 candidates and the coaches can select from that the one with the most votes.
