BLACK LION AWARD - Football At the end of the season, the Black Lion award will be presented to a player from the Lake Fenton Youth Football program who best exemplifies the character of Major Don Holleder. Major Holleder played football at West Point and was killed in action during the Viet Nam war. This award is dedicated to his memory, and the memory of other Black Lions, on the 101st anniversary of the 28th Infantry. Holleder was an All-American football player who switched positions on the team because the team needed someone to play that position. He sacrificed for his team. In Vietnam, he game his life up helping his fellow soldiers. The award winner will be chosen based on the players leadership, courage, devotion to duty, self-sacrifice, and above all - an unselfish concern for his team ahead of himself. http://www.coachwyatt.com/blacklionaward.html Coaches should select one player from your team and write up the reason why. SPIRIT AWARD - Cheer At the end of the season, the Lake Fenton Youth Football program will present the "Spirit Award" to a deserving member of our cheerleading team. The Athlete who: -Works hard at their sport, -Demonstrate what it means to play fair, -Win or lose with grace and dignity, and -Give something back to their communities -Can come together as one team. -"One team. One goal: winning more than just the game." Coaches should select one player from your team and write up the reason why. MICHAEL BLOOMFIELD LEADERSHIP AWARDA player from the Lake Fenton Youth Football program will be selected at the end of the season to receive the Michael Bloomfield Leadership Award. Michael Bloomfield is an astronaut who has logged over a million miles in space. He graduated from Lake Fenton High School in 1977. Mike served as Captain of the 1980 United States Air Force Academy Falcon Football Team. Here are the requirements to determine our winner: 1. Competence - Understands the various plays and correctly performs assignments. 2. Self Awareness - Knows own strengths and weaknesses; maximizes the use of strengths and works to minimize the impact of weaknesses, both at practice and on his own time. 3. Game and Practice Behavior - Plays hard within the rules of the game, showing respect for himself, the other players, coaches, officials, and parents. 4. Judgment and Decision Making - In all decisions, puts the success of the team ahead of personal recognition or glory. 5. Tolerance for Hard Work - Mentally and physically tough; performs to the best of ability even when fatigued. 6. Vision and Action - Continuously inspires and encourages his teammates to do all the above through his actions and words. Player chosen by varsity head coaches Golden Whistle AwardPlayers and Parents may nominate the head coach or assistant coach who has had the most positive impact on their participant. Nominations are reviewed by those board members who are not coaches to determine the winners. One football coach and one cheerleading coach are selected.
