The Blue Devil Freshmen Blue
squad continued to show steady improvement Saturday by beating the Bentley
Bulldogs 18 to 0. The Lake Fenton Freshmen White improved their record to 3-1 with a 30-19 win against Swartz Creek. The Lake Fenton JV Blue’s record is now 3-1 after losing a
heartbreaker
to Vassar 10-8 on Saturday in the tough MMRFL JV A division.
“This was a tough loss for the kids but we are so proud of their
effort, today was our best game”, head coach Scott Herm was quoted as saying.
The JV blue team has allowed only two touchdowns in four games. The
defense was lead by Robert Sparks, Tyler Frey, Justin Short, Daniel Dale, Matt
Engleberts, Mark Kotula, Daniel Resta, and Tommie Tompkins.
“The key to our team has been defense all year, the kids showed a
tremendous amount of heart keeping Vassar out of the end zone from the two yard
line on four straight plays” said defensive coach Neil Wakeman.
Offensive coach Terry Grimes said, “I thought we were in for a very long
day when we gave up a safety on our first play but these kids never gave up or
stopped working, what an effort!” Logan Herm connected with Brian Goss for a 48 yard pass that set up
Edward Walterhouse’s bruising two yard touchdown run. Walterhouse added the
extra point for all eight of the team’s points. The JV Blue line was
considerably smaller but did not allow a sack on seven passing plays.
The line was anchored by Kiel Cole, Mark Kotula, Tyler Donnelly, Luke
Idoni, Tyler Frey, and Daniel Dale. Zach
O’Brien made some great blocks from the starting split end position.
The team has New Lothrup and Atherton remaining on their tough schedule. The JV White team fell to Bentley 25-12 The JV Black team lost 14-6 to Carmen Ainsworth. The Lake Fenton Varsity
team had an exciting come from behind victory against Bentley. Trailing
20-8 at halftime, the team scored 14 unanswered points. Running Back Mitch
Kirk sprinted around the end for 3 touchdowns and also 1 two point conversion.
Quarterback Cory Pierce also scored a two point conversion. The offensive
line of Alex Okopien, Andrew McGlaughlin, Jacob Vaillancourt, Jeff Heller, Brett
Braund, Calvin Williams and Nate Franks played solid all day opening holes.
Wide Receiver Devin Evans also had a fourth quarter pass reception on 3rd and 12
for a key first down late in the game. The defense rallied for a solid 2nd half with 2 blocked punts, a fumble recovery, forced fumbles and pass deflections. For the day, workhorse running back and back-up quarterback Mitch Kirk had 179 yards on 21 carries for an average of 8.5 yards per carry. |
